In Loving Memory of Marvin E. Luhrs




On May 21, 2014, at the age of 94 1/2, he passed away peacefully at home where he resided since 1955. Born in Reno, NV on Sept. 16, 1919 to Fritz and Alice Luhrs, raised in Gardnerville, graduated from Douglas High in 1936, attended UNR, and served in the U.S. Navy. Marv married the love of his life, Irene McCauley, in 1955 and recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He worked for Safeway, was general manager of Capital Beverages, and retired from Sierra Pacific Power Co. He was preceded in death by his father Fritz, mother Alice Kearney Luhrs, brother John D. Luhrs, daughter Jolene Scott, and grandsons Benji Luhrs and Bo Kendall. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene, son Jack Luhrs, daughters Carol Lee Chavez, Dalene Bueno (Carlos), Neecie Schlesener (Joe), and Netty Barton (Eric), 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marv loved hunting, fishing, camping, wood cutting, baseball and riding his bicycle into his 70s. He and Irene were very involved with Carson City Little League and Babe Ruth and he was also one of the original volunteers to help build Governor’s Field. His true devotion was to his loving wife and his entire family. He will be greatly missed and will live on through his continually growing family. Celebration of his life will be held 11am on Thurs.
