FERNLEY — Carson High’s wrestling team, despite two wrestlers failing to make weight on Saturday morning, finished third at the Fernley Tournament.

Lowry won with 263.5 followed by Spanish Springs at 245 and Carson at 220.5. Thirty-one teams were entered in the event.

Sammy Mercado (113) and Austin Martinez (120) both failed to make weight, costing Carson valuable team points. Mercado was 2-0 on Friday and Martinez was 2-1. Mercado still finished fifth.

“I thought we wrestled fairly well considering some of the variable like guys not making weight,” coach Paul Carter said. “I’m not satisfied where we finished and I don’t think the kids are.”
