Matilda Candace Winchester Loar

July 7, 1915 - January 14, 2014

Matilda was born in what was then Oklahoma Territory to Richard Benjamin Winchester and Alice Wilkinson Winchester. She was raised on a farm in Oklahoma until she married Flavious Sawin. They had one living child, Merlin Hugh Sawin, that preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, 4 sisters, and her husband Charles Loar. After leaving Oklahoma, she lived life to the fullest in Yosemite and Mammoth Lakes where she befriended many, including Ansel Adams. She eventually settled in Las Vegas, where she lived for many years, before coming to Carson City. Tilda is survived by her grandchildren: Stacy Sawin Pentecost (Emanuel), Cynthia Sawin Ferrel (Jeffrey), and Stuart Gregory Sawin (Kathy); 10 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Tilda was very much loved by her many friends and family members. She will be missed dearly. At her request, there were no services.
