Carson boys, girls grab second at Sierra meet

RENO — Carson High’s boys and girls cross-country teams finished second at Thursday’s Sierra League meet at Galena Creek Park.

The Carson girls finished with 48, nine points behind Douglas. The Carson boys had 53 points, well behind Galena’s winning total of 24.

Lindsay Adams and Moriah Munyan of Douglas went 1-2 in the varsity girls race, Eveline Delgado was third in 20:02.40 for the 5000-meter run while Cindy Juchtzer was fourth in 20:11.11. Alex Drozdoff was seventh in 20:38.13, Shelby Brown was ninth in 21:07.08 and Athena Favero was 26th in 22:34.36. Alison Greene was 27th in 22:35.

In the boys varsity race, Anthony Cacioppo was third in 17:36 and Tylar Chester was ninth in 17:47. Porfirio Jauregui and Tony Xie were 14th and 15th in 18:54 and 19 minutes, respectively. Wyatt Cartier was 18th in 19:03, Michael Leiken was 19th in 19:04 and Daniel Jauregui was 20th in 19:07.

“The boys ran real well,” said coach Pete Sinnott. “Galena had a six-minute advantage before, and we’ve cut it to four minutes. Tony improved by more than 90 seconds. Tyler improved by about a minute.”

In the JV boys race, Douglas won with 25 points and Carson was fourth with 90. Kiefer Catron was seventh in 20:12 and Konnor Van Worth was 13th in 20:36. Ethan Lopes was 18th in 20:48, Daniel Yosofat was 27th in 22:03 and Jesus Lopez-Rodriguez was 30th in 22:13. In the JV girls race, Carson was second to Galena. Kathryn Liemondt was sixth in 25:10, while Kaylee Gordon was ninth (25:23), Tiffany DeRosa was 10th (25:24), Kacey Lopes was 11th (25:26), Dominique D’Orazi was 13th in 26:03 and Josie Share was 14th (26:23)

Carson handles Wooster

RENO — The doubles tandem of Jace Zampirro and Trevor Sollberger went 3-0 to lead Carson to a 14-4 over Wooster Tuesday afternoon. They won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3.

Josh Breen and Jared Hearn went 2-1 (6-1, 6-0) as did Sam Burketta and Kyle Kunz (6-3, 6-0). Jake Jones went 2-1 in singles (6-2, 6-2), while Avery Whitt went 2-0 (7-5. 6-4). Aaron Woodbury and Charlie Adams also posted wins in singles.


GIRLS TENNIS

Wooster tops Carson

The Senators fell to 1-4 overall after a 11-7 loss to visiting Wooster on Thursday afternoon.

Katy Breeding won twice in singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Amand Breen and Anya Woodbury went 2-1 in doubles (6-3, 6-0) as did Liz Flansberg and Preeta Amin (6-4, 6-1). Greta Sturm and Emma Breeding went 1-2. Tess Corda and Sahara Winder teamed for a 6-1 exhibition win, and Hailey Lepire and Sydney Coolbaugh won 6-2. Coolbaugh and Winder had a 6-0 win.


FROSH FOOTBALL

Carson edges North Valleys

Jace Keema scored on two short runs, and the Senators held off a late rally by North Valleys for a 28-26 victory Thursday afternoon.

Carson improved to 2-1 heading into next week’s game at Reed.

Greg Wallace and Jordan Aikins scored the other Carson TDs. Jon Barahona was perfect on PATs which was the difference in the game.

North Valleys came back from a 28-14 deficit with two-fourth quarter scores, but were unable to convert either 2-point conversion, including one with less than a minute left.
