Scott Tully and Richard Tieben will receive awards from the Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation due to their volunteer contributions.
Tully and Tieben, among others, will be recognized at an awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the monument near the entry of the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park.
Tully will be given a volunteer of the years award, while Tieben will win recognition as the volunteer of the year. Tully is being cited for his record of donating time and expertise for recreation programs. Tieben was named for donating time and talents to rebuild the historical Pierini Oven House at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park/Riverview Park.
The Organization of the Year award goes to “Let Them Be Kids,” founded by Ian and Gina Hill. It assists aquatic center staffers with a swimming program for children diagnosed as autistic.
Resource Concepts Inc. was named business of the year for providing expert professional services to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Selection of the recipients for 2013 was a cooperative effort involving the foundation, the department and the Carson City Historical Society.
Recipients names will go on the awards section of the monument, said David Bugli, foundation president. He said the names of Bonnie K. Dietrich, Rolf A. Johnson and Jeffrey L. Scott would also be added to the Wall of Memory nearby at the same monument.
