Senators sweep North Valleys

RENO — Carson High’s volleyball team won its second straight match, knocking off North Valleys 25-21, 25-12 and 25-22 in a Division I crossover match Thursday night.

The win moved Carson to 3-5 heading into Tuesday’s match at home (6 p.m.) against Douglas. It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the match.

“We were able to get a lot of people on the floor,” coach Robert Maw said. “The girls played well and we got the win. Hopefully we’ll start getting this turned around in the right direction.”

Savannah Smith led the net attack with six kills, while Yana Spence added five. Gaby Palazzolo and Juliana Anderson added four each. Setter Danielle Good had 21 assists, four digs and an ace, and Jaycie Roberts led the team with nine digs.

Dayton gets first win

Dayton notched its first win of the season Thursday, blanking Fernley, 3-0 in boys soccer action.

Dayton is now 1-7 going into next Tuesday’s match at home against Fallon.

“It was good for them,” Dayton coach Vismar Rivas said. “They needed it for their self esteem. Hopefully it will give them some confidence.”

Ryan Greenwalt scored in the 11th minute, and Raul Rojas made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 35th minute. Jorddy Diaz scored the game’s final goal in the 75th minute.


TENNIS

Carson girls win in tie-breaker

The Senators improved to 3-6 with a 10-9 win over Fallon Thursday at CHS. The teams were tied at 9 after the conclusion of the matches, but Carson won five of the seven tie-breakers. In the tie-breakers it was the first player to reach seven points and win by two.

Katy Breeding won all three of her singles matches, 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0. Shaylin Segura went 2-1, winning 6-1 and 6-2, and losing 7-6. In doubles, Elizabeth Flansberg and Preeta Amin went 2-1 as did Amanda Breen and Anya Woodbury.

CHS boys top Fallon, 11-7

FALLON ­­— Aaron Woodbury, Jake Jones and Avery Whitt all went undefeated in singles to lead the Senators past Fallon Thursday.

Woodbury won 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. Whitt won 6-1 and 7-6. Jake Jones won 6-0 and 6-3. Sam Burketta and Kyle Kunz went 2-1 in doubles, while the tandems of Josh Breen and Jared Hearn, and Jace Zampirro and Trevor Sollberger won one match each.


FROSH FOOTBALL

Carson falls to Damonte

Damonte Ranch scored 14 points bridging the second and third quarters en route to a 28-14 win over Carson Thursday afternoon.

After spotting Damonte a first-quarter score, Carson tied the game on a 65-yard run by Greg Wallace. The Mustangs scored right before the end of the half and then again in the third quarter to take a 21-7 lead. Justin Tschetter scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs came right back and scored for a two-touchdown lead.
