Usage of Overdrive, the library’s eBook and audiobook download website, has grown dramatically since its inception. The number of materials available has increased, a pathway to use the program with Kindles has been added, and the search capabilities are refined. Popular titles, such as John Grisham’s “The Racketeer” or Janet Evanovich’s “Notorious Nineteen,” have a waiting list of up to 16 patrons. On March 28, the Overdrive Digital Bookmobile, a high-tech version of the traditional bookmobile, will be stationed in the library parking lot, and patrons will be able to access five interactive “stations” for website assistance and information. Reno’s classic rock station, KOZZ, 105.7, also will be there, as well as a local food truck. Join the festivities and learn new ways to use technology and the library.
Poundstone brings comedy to Carson
For years, award-winning comedienne Paula Poundstone’s library experience included checking “out everything that wasn’t nailed down” and never paying for that opportunity. Her work as a national spokesperson for Friends of the Library is her way of giving back. Poundstone will present a one-night-only performance in Carson City at 7:30 p.m. March 29 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Community Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. and ticket prices range from $35 for general admission to $45 for reserved seating. Proceeds from the program will be used to help fund Friends projects, such as the summer reading programs, various author events, computers and technology, and National Library Week activities.
Tax Help at the BRIC
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides trained volunteers, including several high school students who have passed the training qualifications tests, to help prepare returns for low to moderate taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $51,000 or less. Since it began in February, the program has already exceeded last year’s total number of returns prepared, with 30 returns and approximately $60,000 in refunds for participants. One young woman was thrilled to receive a refund large enough to pay off the balance of the loan on her car. Call 775-283-7123 for information regarding this free, beneficial program.
BookMasters
The March selection for BookMasters is entitled, “Churchill’s Secret Agent,” by local authors Max and Linda Ciampoli. Both authors will be present to discuss their book when the club meets at 6 p.m. March 26 in the library auditorium.
CCAI Nevada Neighbors
When traveling to other communities, it’s always interesting to see how art has been integrated into the landscape and how it enhances the visiting experience. Tourists and locals alike stroll through our legislative complex and enjoy the history reflected there. The Capital City Arts Initiative will present “Bay Area Contemporary Art,” by visiting artist Scott MacLeod at 7 p.m. March 27 in the library auditorium. Mr. MacLeod’s focus involves artists and organizations finding ways of “engaging with commerce, community and methods of collaboration.” An informal reception for the artist will begin at 6:15 p.m. The evening should be interesting and informative, a discussion of the impact of art in our lives and our community.
Classes available @Two
The new digital learning center continues to expand its offerings with a wide variety of free classes. These small classes provide an opportunity to discover a new interest, sharpen job search skills, or update current skills. • Photoshop Elements meets at 6 p.m. Monday and is sure to fill up quickly and space is limited. The class takes advantage of the Center’s most advanced computer technology.

• Those folks looking for employment might check out the class, Job Searching. It meets at 4:30 p.m. on March 27.
• Beginning Excel class begins at 4:30 p.m. March 26.
