The Nevada WildCats U-18 softball squad won its third tournament of the year last weekend at Incline Village.
The locals went 7-0 in the two-day event.
WNC’s Carlee Beck pitched a 6-hitter in the 8-3 championship win over Scotts Valley Trouble. Kylie McClellan went 3-for-3, while Jennifer Purcell and Valerie Quam collected two hits apiece.
The WildCats went 4-0 in pool play, giving up just one run. They were 3-0 in elimination games.
Purcell and Quam went 10-for-16 and 9-for-16, respectively. Purcell scored 10 runs and drove in eight, while Quam drove in six runs, scored six times and hit two homers. Kelsie Callahan sent 8-for-14 with nine RBI with Ayaliah Paxon going 6-for-18. Skye Simpson and Megan Hospodka each went 5-for-9 and Bailey Henderson went 5-for-14.
• The U-16 WildCats went 1-3 over the weekend at Incline Village. The three losses were by a total of five runs. Kaitlyn Jimmy threw all four games for the WildCats. Kyla Duggins went 10-for-12 with three runs, while Jimmy went 8-for-12 with four RBI.
• The U-10 WildCats went 2-3 over the weekend. Kailee Luschar went 5-for-9 with a homer, while Taylynn Kizer and Amaya Mendeguia each went 3-for-9. Aspen Smokey went 3-for-7 and Kedre Luschar went 3-for-4.
Menezes wins at CVGC
Marc Menezes shot a net 67 to win the individual stroke play event on July 28 at Carson Valley Golf Club.
Bob Pemberton was second with a 68, while Dan Essary and Jeff Schreiber were at 71. Essary carded a hole-in-one on No. 5.
John Crey and Mike Davis tied for first in the B flight with a 68. Jim Arens was third with a 69, while Anthony Moore was fourth at 72.
Harlow quartet triumphs
Tom Harlow, Bill Kaster, Fred Coons and Rich Torok combined for a net 123 to win the 4-man two better ball format for the Empire Ranch senior golfers in a tournament played at Somersett on July 22.
John Sullivan, Myron Carpenter and Chris Nenzel teamed for a 126. John Masiello, Nick Paul, Randy Wegner and John Lewis shot 130.
Hans Ehrlin, Carl Slate, Jim Zewan and Terry Thomas were closes to the hole winners.
• Gene Gaston (61), Bob Pitcock (60) and Dick Brownfield (61) were flight winners at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club stroke play event.
Tom Sawyer (62) and John Tierney (63) finished behind Gaston in Flight A. Phil Polaske (61) and Gary Mick (62) finished by Pitcock in Flight B. Paul Lockwood (64) and Chuck Edgar (66) placed behind Brownfield in Flight C.
Johnson wins Silver Oak title
Larry Johnson shot a gross 146 over 36 holes to edge Lee Plemel and Milo Beauchman by four strokes to win the Flight 1 at Silver Oak.
Chang Suh was fourth at 152 and Jim Sapien was fifth at 153. Paul Jorgenson won low net in Flight 1 with a 135, a shot better than Johnson and three better than Plemel.
Frank Maricich shot 167 to win low gross for Flight 2. Bill Whitston, Dennis Holt and Kevin Silsby tied for second at 178. Rich Torok was fifth at 179. Tyler Roberts won low net at 135, while Maricich and Luther Best tied for second at 139. Mike Gaynor was fourth at 142.
• Jim Silsby, Eric Moormann and Freeman Johnson shot a net 54 to win the 4-man scramble on July 23. The teams of Tona Smith, Steve Alcalay, Tim Bloom and Gary Curti and Terry Thomas, Tony Barbaria, Jim Zewan and Doug Smeltzer tied for second with a 56.
Tack, Loos win title
Alan Tack and Steve Loos compiled 65 ponts to win Thunder Canyon’s Desperado championship.
The format was partner’s better ball-par points and Cha Cha Cha par points.
Clinton Gang, Fran Menante and JP Menante compiled 53 points, Clanton Gang, Dana Whaley and Greg Whitt were third at 52.
Vern Hamilton and Leroy Bowser, and Riley Beckett and Doug Karwoski had 25 in the Par-3 Challenge, while Don Burke Jr. and Wayne Hudson, and Mike Schellin and Bret Andreas were at 27.
Officials needed for youth football
Youth football officials are needed for Pop Warner and Sierra Youth Football League games. No experience is needed, but a football background is preferred.
