Partnership hosts student art contest

Staff Reports

The Partnership of Community Resources is sponsoring an art contest to create designs with an anti-drug message. The winning designs may be transformed into posters, window clings, or newspaper inserts to be displayed throughout the community. Entrants are to pick one of two projects:

Design a decal or window cling for alcohol retailers to display at their store. The message of the decal tells customers that this store does not sell to minors.

or design a poster that depicts a positive message about not drinking alcohol, or depicts a hobby/interest or something to do instead of drugs.

There will be a first-, second-, and third-place winner for each project and in each of two age categories: seventh to ninth-grade students and 10th to 12th-grade students.

Prizes include Target gift cards, Party in a Basket or movie passes. The Tahoe/Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 has donated to this contest to help provide these prizes.

Organizers hope the contest will encourage young people to think about the dangers of drinking alcohol underage or why they choose to not drink, then use creativity to get their message across. The community will be given the opportunity to display these posters and support our youth.

Rules for designs:

1. Entries must represent one of the above projects.

2. Designs must be on 8.5-by-11 inch paper and be the original design of the artist entering the contest.

3. Name of artist, grade, school, and contact phone number should be written on the back of the design.

4. All designs must be turned into the school's front office by 3 p.m. March 12. Homeschoolers may submit designs to the Partnership of Community Resources, 1528 Highway 395, Suite 100, Gardnerville.

Winners will be announced on the Partnership of Community Resource's Web site, www.partnership-resource.org on March 26, 2010. Information, 782-8611.
