Valley lights off Christmas

Town of Gardnerville Office Manager Carol Louthan reported Thursday that the town's holiday kick-off event in Heritage Park Wednesday night drew more than 300 people.

"It turned out really good," she said. "The weather cooperated nicely."

Residents greeted Santa Claus (James Koenig), and took sleigh rides around the park. The sleigh had wheels on it, Louthan explained.

"Everyone who wanted to see Santa got to see him," she said.

She said the Heritage Park tree and pavilion lights were flipped on around 5:40 p.m. Those who missed the show can tune in at 89.9 FM between 4:30 and 10 p.m. daily to hear music synchronized with the light display.

"We had the Sierra Ringers and Christmas carolers," Louthan said. "It looked like everyone enjoyed it, and it sounded like they enjoyed it, too."
