Not just talking about the weather

I had a long talk on Thursday with the weatherman about Carson Valley Days. While there is a possibility there will be thunderstorms in the afternoon, U.S. Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Faucette said chances are they won't materialize until the parade is safely over.

He said folks have been talking about the recent bout of wet weather, but that it just seems like it's been unseasonably damp.

"It's more typical of late May, but I think that it's just because it warmed up so much early in May," he said. "It's not out of the question that we get a cooler, wetter spell around Memorial Day. One of our retired employees said it's really not that unusual."

R-C weather watcher George Uebele reported about an inch of rain in Sheridan Acres during the first eight days of June. Minden weather watcher Stan Kapler was out of town, but his surrogate recorded 1.68 inches during the week.

Former Genoan Nicole Bommarito will have a showing of her artwork June 18-21 at the Nada Dada Motel in Reno. The event is located at the El Cortez Hotel. It is the third edition of the event. More than 100 artists, including Nicole will be showing their artwork. Nicole currently teaches art in Santa Cruz, Calif. For more information, visit www.nadadadamotel.

Retired Sacramento veterinarian Richard Hagle came by the office on Wednesday to talk about his lost dog, Shadow.

The year-old Labrador retriever was in the Harrah's kennel when she figured out how to trip the latch.

Richard said Shadow is black with a brown collar. She has a tag and a yellow microchip. She's got a medical condition and requires regular care.

Hagle's offering a $500 reward for the dog, who he said plays outfield for a softball team back home.

Anyone with information should call Richard at (530) 902-0996 or the Harrahs bell desk at 588-6611, ext. 3105.
