Big Bad Wolf blows the house down

Big Bad Wolf play rock 'n' roll for grown-ups. Fresh but familiar. Tail shakin' and even dance-with-a-partner music. They play rock, blues, reggae, some jazzy Latin songs and have enough country-inspired tunes in their repertoire that they don't have to resort to playing the theme from "Rawhide" 10 times in a row.

Big Bad Wolf is Craig Lind and Ron Blum on guitars and vocals, Charlie Fecteau on bass and Mick Fecteau on drums. Lind and Blum write the band's original material.

"We do a variety of music and get a good response on our original music," said Lind. "We hope to get signed to make a CD by the time we've 70."

The ages of the band members hover on either side of the big 5-0. All of the Big Bad Wolf members have day jobs " the Fecteau brothers are fourth-generation painters, Lind is a tile setter and Blum teaches skiing in winter and golf in summer " and are feeling the effects of the slow economy.

In one of the band's original songs, "Construction Blues," Lind sings that his pickup truck is his limousine and that he's "gonna drop dead with a hammer in my hand." The song is a frequent request at their shows.

Charlie Fecteau said playing in the band is the way to show his creative side.

"No matter how crazy your life is, you play music and it takes your life somewhere else," he said.

Big Bad Wolf play their original music and covers. They are inspired by Lynard Skynard, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Topp " anything from Reno's KTHX-FM.

Big Bad Wolf played fundraisers at Lake Tahoe and Walker, Calif., and at the Joey Jacobsen We Believe poker run at Jethro's in the Gardnerville Ranchos in January.

"We opened a lot of shows for the Three Little Pigs this year," Mick Fecteau jokes.

Big Bad Wolf plays March 14 at Centerfield Sports Bar & Grill in Gardnerville and April 3 at Indigo Restaurant and Bar in Minden Village.
