Candidates' surrogates visit Gardnerville

Gardnerville will be a surrogate city tonight as relatives and supporters of presidential and vice-presidential candidates Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin visit Republican headquarters.

Nevada caucus winner Gov. Mitt Romney, actor Jon Voight and Sarah Palin's parents and in-laws are all expected to stop by headquarters to make phone calls on the candidates' behalf.

Romney and Voight are expected at the call center at 5 p.m. Palin's family isn't expected to arrive until 6:15 p.m.

Chuck and Sally Heath and Jim and Faye Palin are expected to spend the night in the county.

Republican headquarters is located in the Haas Center, 1516 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. Republicans are planning a phone bank rally, so visitors should be prepared to help, according to a spokeswoman.

Early voting wraps up at 3 p.m. today in the CVIC Hall.

As of Wednesday night, 10,480 voters have been to the polls, more than a third of the county's total active voters.

On Tuesday, the polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Record-Courier will attempt to print early and absentee voting results in the Wednesday edition, depending on when they're available.

Recordcourier.com will have final results for Douglas County as soon as they are available. Final results and a precinct-by-precinct breakdown will be available in the Nov. 7 edition.
