A teenage couple is to appear Wednesday in East Fork Justice Court on charges they were responsible for at least one burglary at Northwest Martial Arts.
Amanda and Matthew Golden, both 19, each are being held in Douglas County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
Amanda Golden is charged with attempted burglary. Matthew Golden is charged with principal to attempted burglary.
Sheriff's deputies were called to a burglary in progress about 11 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Gardnerville studio and found the owner detaining Amanda Golden.
He told authorities the studio had been burglarized three times in October and he had stayed on the premises in case a suspect tried again.
The owner told authorities he heard the door rattle, so he called 911 and found the woman outside. He said while they were waiting for deputies, her husband reportedly called her on her cell phone.
Officers found a 2-inch knife in the sleeve of her sweatshirt that matched pry marks on the door. They also found a cigarette outside the building that matched Matthew Golden's brand.
Amanda Golden called her mother from jail, admitted the attempted break-in, and told her that Matthew drove away when the deputies arrived and stranded her in the parking lot, according to tapes from the jail's telephone system.
He was arrested and reportedly admitted the burglaries were his idea and that he drove the getaway car in two previous burglaries, according to investigators.
Deputies did not disclose what was taken in the burglaries.
Matthew Golden told deputies he was an Army private home on leave from Fort Hood, Texas, where he serves in the military police.
They were staying in Indian Hills.
