Cross Country: Douglas runs solid at Galena meet

The Douglas High cross country team enjoyed what coach Jay Frey called its best race of the season Wednesday afternoon in the Sierra League meet at Galena High.


The Tiger boys solidified a team berth in the upcoming regional championships with their performance.


Senior Brad Boyd took eighth to lead the Tigers with a time of 18:07. Scott Lococo broke out with a big race, taking 10th at 18:27 while Andrew Cobourn took 11th at 18:36.


Corey Trujillo finished in 13th with an 18:46, James Leonard took 18th at 19:25 and Tanner DeGiovanni took 20th at 19:50.


The varsity slate was rounded out by Kory Koskin in 26th at 20:43 and Jeremy Tigh in 27th at 20:43.


In the girls' race, senior Taylor Biaggi took first with a time of 20:31 and Amanda Boyd was third at 21:03.


Freshman Sadie Gastelum took eighth at 22:25, Bre Chabot took 21st at 24:00, Kylen Flannagan was 37th at 25:57, Amber Emerson took 43rd with a 27:18 and Shannon Sturgess was 48th with a 27:53.


Nickoli Kallman (21:15), Bon Tem (23:17), Blayke Olson (23:42), Mark Pieters (23:42) and Josh Tigh (24:33) also ran for Douglas.
