School play opens today

"The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" is performed at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, 701 Long Valley Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Performances are 7 p.m. today and Saturday and Oct. 17 and 18 and at 2 p.m. Sunday and Oct. 19. Tickets are $10 and include dessert and beverages. Shoot for the Cure

The Topaz Cure-Aiders Relay for Life team's Shoot for the Cure fundraiser is 9 a.m. Saturday at Carson Valley Clays Gun Club, 92 China Spring Road in south Gardnerville. festival Saturday

Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 hosts a Scandinavian festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1201 Saliman Road, Carson City. The event features raffle prizes, a story teller, crafts, music, exhibits and demonstrations, baked goods and traditional foods. Information, 762-3734.


Books with a Bite

Harvest auction in Wellington

The 34th annual harvest auction sponsored by Smith Valley Community United Methodist Church and St. John's Catholic Church is Oct. 19 at the Smith Valley Community Hall in Wellington.

There will be a craft boutique, junque boutique, country kitchen, silent auction, raffle and snack bar. Doors open at 10 a.m., auction begins 11:30 a.m.
