Drug dealer back on probation

Probation was reinstated Tuesday for a 20-year-old drug dealer who was allowed to return to Western Regional Drug Court.

District Judge Dave Gamble expressed his exasperation with Casey Smith.

"I want this to be written in capital letters: 'This is the last benefit you will receive from me,'" Gamble said. "You haven't told me the truth three times in your life."

He ordered Smith to report that afternoon for residential substance abuse treatment in Carson City.

"If you do anything not consistent with your probation, I am done," Gamble said.

Prosecutor Laurie Trotter argued against probation.

"We would ask for prison time because that's what traffickers get," Trotter said.

Smith was arrested in July in Lyon County for allegedly breaking into houses while trying to elude capture for failure to appear in drug court. Trotter said Lyon County was not pursuing charges.

Smith pleaded guilty to trafficking in a controlled substance stemming from a Feb. 28, 2007, drug sale to an undercover officer.
