Knights of Columbus sponsor Respect Life poster contest

Staff Reports

About 250 middle and high school students from the Diocese of Reno submitted work in the Knights of Columbus eighth annual Respect Life poster contest in October.

Lyrissa Grant, a member of St. Gall Catholic Church and Carson Valley Middle School student, won first place in the eighth-grade category.

Bishop Randolph Calvo gave out the awards during Mass at St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church in Carson City.

A $100 prize was awarded to first-place winners, $75 for second-place, $50 for third-place and $25 to six honorable mentions.

"This was one of the best years we've had," said poster contest chairman Mark Foxwell. "We had some real good entries that covered many of the church's teachings on a whole range of topics. They not only included abortion but cloning, capital punishment and euthanasia. All of these issues are considered critical by the church."
