Track & Field: School records fall at state meet

The Douglas High track & field team didn't bring home any state titles at the NIAA meet at Damonte Ranch, but the Tigers saw three school records fall over the weekend.


The boys' 4x800 team of Brad Boyd, James Leonard, Seth White and Derrik Jenkins took third with a school-record time of 8:03.06, bettering their regional championship time by more than three seconds.


Senior Nicole Mehrer took third in the triple jump with a leap of 34-3.75 and freshman Kyra Barth took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.


Junior Jessica Waggoner took fourth in both the discus and the shot put, tossing a 117-03 and a 38-8 respectively.


Her throw in the shot put was good enough to break the school record, giving her records in both throwing events in just her first year of track.


Senior Sarah Hartley took seventh in the 400 with a 58.63. Her time broke the school record in the event for the second time this season.


Hartley teamed with Susie White, Mehrer and Bridget Maestretti to take seventh in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:10.94. As a team, the Lady Tigers finished 10th with with 24.5 points scored.


Reno won the girls' meet with 55 points.


The Sierra Lutheran boys' team took third overall in the 1A competition.


The 4x800 relay team of Levi Grabow, Andrew Deterding, Michael Kubel and Taylor Love won the 1A state title at 9:33.18


The 4x400 relay team of Nathan Conover, Preston Lyons, Grabow and Ryan Jackson took fourth at 3:52.36.


Love took fourth in the 800 at 2:10.27 and fifth in the 1,600 at 5:13.69.


Kubel took fourth in the 3,200 at 11:08.54


Lyons took fifth in the 400 at 56.26 and Conover took eighth at 57.74.


Grabow took fifth in the 300 hurdles at 48.84 and Chris Bergstrom took seventh at 49.45.


Nick DePaoli took fifth in the 200 at 24.55.


Bob DePaoli took seventh in the high jump at 5-4.


Tori Swearingen took third in the girls' 300 hurdles with a time of 51.20 and took eighth in the 100 and 200 with respective times of 14.12 and 28.90.
