Watch for springtime visitors

My neighbor, Sara, called the other day and told me about the bear that had come to visit them. He crossed the creek, came up on their deck and stared in the window at them. This is the time of year we will see quite a bit of that with our local wildlife, so please protect yourselves and your pets from any harm.

Coed softball vs. Mono sheriffs

Saturday, May 31, the Coleville High School boys' baseball and girls' softball players will square off in a coed game with the Mono County Sheriffs. The game will take place at the high school field, at noon. The cost for adults will be $5, which includes lunch. Children under 10 will be free. Try to get to the game and have a great time rooting for the kids.

This and that

n The California state spelling bee will be Saturday in Santa Rosa. Let's keep holding a good thought for the success of our local participant, Hannah Cain.

n The Mono County health nurse will again be at the Walker Senior Center Tuesday, May 20, from noon to 1 p.m. for any blood pressure checks, immunizations, etc., that you might need.

n Remember that the Coleville library has longer hours now: Monday through Thursday, morning and afternoon; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get down there and see the art exhibits, and check out some of their really good books.

n The Antelope Valley Friends of the Library is meeting this afternoon, 4 p.m. at the library. They could always use some more members to sort books or help with their book sales, and besides that, they are all really nice people to know.

n This evening is the Antelope Valley Fire Commission meeting at 6:30 p.m., Walker fire station. As always, the public is welcome and invited to attend.
