A celebration of life for former Minden resident Joseph Francis Dempnock, 83, is May 24, 2008, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in San Mateo at 11 a.m.

Mr. Dempnock died of pulmonary fibrosis on April 28, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.

He was born on July 26, 1924 in Mt. Carmel, Pa., to John and Mary Dempnock and attended Mt. Carmel High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served from 1943-1946 as an airplane mechanic.

In 1961 he married Betty Ann Kapoun and lived in San Mateo until 1995. He and his brother Ignatius Dempnock owned and ran the Dempnock Truck Painting and Lettering Co. in San Francisco until his retirement in 1989.

In 1995, the couple moved to Minden where they lived until 2004 when Betty died of cancer. Mr. Dempnock relocated to Saugus, Calif., where his daughter Anne Marie and her children Eliot Joseph and Bettina Liane reside.

He is also survived by his daughter Debbie Mary and her daughter Jamie Tyr as well as nephew Leonard of Santa Barbara, Calif.

A memorial service was Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church for 21-year Gardnerville resident Frances Marvine Peacock, 75. Mrs. Peacock died May 6, 2008, in Carson City.

Born Sept. 7, 1932, in San Pedro, Calif., to Marvin Francis and Genevieve Marie Gray, she was a graduate of Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif. She married Edward Ernest Peacock July 21, 1973, in Reno.

Mrs. Peacock was a homemaker and a mother. She came to Gardnerville from Torrance, Calif.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Edward; sons and daughters-in-law Daniel Jr. and Erlinda Cary of Las Vegas, Patrick and Yocasta Cary of Diamond Bar, Calif.; son Timothy Cary of Harrisonville, Mo.; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Gary Miller of Gardnerville; sisters and brothers-in-law Charla and Lee Hardesty of Fair Oaks, Calif.; sister Judy Gallaway of Tishomingo, Miss.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden on Saturday.

Donations may be made to the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

FitzHenry's Mortuary in Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements.
