Gardnerville native wins emmy

Gardnerville native and UNR graduate Brian Hickey received an Emmy from The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, San Francisco/Northern California chapter. Hickey, a 1991 graduate of Douglas High School, won the award for his feature series "Weekend Adventures with Brian Hickey." The segment runs weekly on KCRA 3, Sacramento's NBC affiliate.

Nominated stories include a climb and ski back down Round Top peak near Kirkwood, riverboarding down the American River, and exploration of an historic gold mine now open to the public. Hickey is a reporter and fill-in anchor at KCRA, where he has worked for the last four years. Hickey graduated from the Reynolds School of Journalism at UNR in 1996. He went on to work at KTVN 2 in Reno as an anchor and reporter for six years.

In 2004, Hickey moved to Sacramento with his wife Rene where she completed her residency at U.C. Davis medical center in anesthesiology. The couple has a 2-year old daughter and is expecting another girl in August. Hickey is the son of long-time Gardnerville residents Tom and Terri Hickey.
