Local authors gather at library Saturday


Area authors gather for book signing and discussion, 3-5 p.m. Saturday, at the Douglas County Public Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Authors attending include "The Spirit of Seabiscuit" author Jani Buron, "DeadStruck" writer Thomas Davis, "Penguin Paradise" author Barry Lar Rieu and "Carragan Adventures" writer Patricia Murphy.


Nevada author Jani Buron's most recent book, "The Spirit of Seabiscuit," is an account of the glory days of horse racing and life on the Northern California ranch where Seabiscuit was trained. The book has many historical photos of Seabiscuit, the Howard family and Ridgewood Ranch in the 1940s. Information at www.janiburon.com.

Author Thomas Davis has lived in Nevada since 1974 and works as a computer network specialist with the Nevada Department of Public Safety. His interests include writing, seagoing cinematography, photography and international travel. His affiliation with the Western Nevada College's Lone Mountain Writers led to his first mystery novel, "DeadStruck."

Barry Lar Rieu is a Northern California native. He attended University of California, Berkeley, and San Jose State University where he received a degree in business administration. Lar Rieu is an inventor, amateur radio operator, skier, pilot and the author of the mystery novel, "Stoned Dead."


Patricia A. Murphy, author of "Carragan Adventures," has a doctorate in philosophy and is a business and personal growth consultant and lecturer. Her experience as an animal communicator is incorporated in her writing. Murphy has been a resident of Indian Hills for the past four years.
