Reward grows to $22,500 in Oxley murder

Businesses and residents have contributed another $10,000 to Secret Witness to bring the total to $22,500 for information in the murder of a 36-year-old Johnson Lane man.

Douglas County Sheriff's Capt. Keith Logan said Tuesday he anticipates the amount will grow.

"Citizens in the community, both private and members of the business world, are very concerned with this case and the safety and security of the community," Logan said.

He is heading the investigation into the shooting death of Benjamin Oxley who was murdered at his Wildhorse Lane home early Feb. 21.

There have been no arrests and the sheriff's office has released few details.

"We're still running down leads and encouraging the community to come forward with any information that will help in this investigation," Logan said.

Bill Oxley, the victim's twin brother, said he hoped the community would respond.

"Keep this case before the public," he said Friday prior to his brother's funeral.

Deputies were called to the home at 2800 Wildhorse Lane at 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 and found the victim dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

Oxley's wife Melissa and 6-year-old daughter were at the residence as well as Melissa Oxley's 15-year-old brother who is living with the family.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Secret Witness at 782-7463, sheriff's Lead Investigator Ron Elges at 782-9910 or the Investigations Division main line 782-9905.

Information can be provided to the Douglas County Communications Center for nonemergency contact at 782-9911. The caller may remain anonymous.

A fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank to assist the Oxley family with expenses. Donations may be made at any branch to the Ben Oxley Memorial Fund.
