Antelope Valley speaker wins more contests

Reno Probert of Eastern Sierra Academy, the winner of our district's recent Lion's Club speaker's contest, went on to the zone competition and won out over students from larger schools to move on to the regional finals. As I had said a few weeks ago, he is an impressive young speaker at only 15 years old. His speech in the district competition was great, but I have heard that he power-tuned it for the next level and was even better. Congratulations to Reno and we're rooting for you at the regionals.

Get an appetite

This Saturday, 5-7 p.m., at the Walker Community Center will be Beta Sigma Phi's annual corned beef and cabbage dinner with all the trimmings and homemade desserts. They will also have some really good raffle prizes, including the grand prize of a $500 Visa gift card. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children younger than 10 years old. In addition, the Lion's Club will have a no-host bar available.

Sunday in the park

Easter Sunday, March 23, the Antelope Valley Lions Club will again be sponsoring their annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Walker Community Park. It will begin at 1 p.m. and the prize offered for the winner is a golden egg. Please bring your kids to enjoy this fun event.

Health clinic

The Mono County Health Nurse will be at the Walker Senior Center Tuesday, March 25, from noon to 1 p.m. for any vaccinations you might need or blood pressure checks. If you need vaccinations, call the Mammoth office at (760) 924-1830.

Golf in the wild

An annual tradition is happening Saturday, April 5. The Antelope Valley Lions Club's Cow Pasture Golf Tournament will take place at the Baldo Giorgi ranch on Topaz Lane. This is such a fun event and a great way to meet new people. Get yourself a foursome, or, if you don't have one, they will get you partners. Call Dave at (530) 495-2822, Clint at (530) 495-2935 or Lee at (530) 495-2488. The cost is $25 for a round of this special golf, along with the greatest rib lunch you will ever get. Non-golfers can come and watch and enjoy lunch for $12. It is a not-to-be-missed occasion.

Supervisors meet

Monthly, the Mono County Board of Supervisors schedules an evening meeting in different areas. The meeting at the Walker Community Center is set for Tuesday, April 15. I'll give you more information regarding time, etc., as the date draws closer, but mark your calendar to attend and see what's going on.
