JAC route change starts Saturday

The city's bus service, Jump Around Carson (JAC), will officially stop rides to a Douglas County shopping center Saturday while expanding service in the city.

Douglas County's bus service, Douglas Area Rapid Transit (DART), will carry riders to Carson Valley Plaza after picking them up at a transfer point at Costco in South Carson City for free, according to the city.

This will be Monday through Friday and not Saturday, however.

Service for Route 3 will now stop north of the Carson City-Douglas County border, about a mile from the shopping center, and loop around Snyder Avenue, Silver Sage Drive and Clearview Drive back to Carson Street.

This route change will serve new customers, including shelters operated by Friends in Service Helping (FISH) and Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

The route changes were approved by both Carson City and Douglas County last month after Douglas declined to pay Carson the $16,000 the city said it paid each year to run its buses to the shopping center.
