National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meets Monday

Staff Reports

The Bureau of Land Management's National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meets 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino, 407 North Virginia St., Reno, to discuss the management, protection and control of wild horses and burros on Western public rangelands.

The advisory board provides input and advice to the BLM as it carries out its responsibilities under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, which mandates the management of these free-roaming animals in a manner ensuring healthy herds at levels consistent with the land's capacity to support them. The BLM manages about 33,000 wild horses and burros that roam BLM-managed rangelands in 10 western states.

To address the board at the meeting, register with the BLM by noon Monday at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino, 329-4777. Send comments to Ramona_DeLorme@blm.gov. Information, (775) 861-6583.
