Johnson Lane bike parade Sunday

Staff Reports

Participants and spectators are needed for the Independence Day Bike Parade that begins at the Johnson Lane General Store at 5 p.m. Sunday and continues to a barbecue at the Johnson Lane Fire Station.

Johnson Lane resident Elizabeth Furry said she started the bike parade with just her children in 2000.

"It's become a fun tradition for our area," Furry said. "The parade is open to everyone " it's a Norman Rockwell sort of thing. We'd love to have kids come with their decorated bikes and we love to have spectators."

Cost for hot dogs, soda and chips is $3. No motorized vehicles are allowed and children must wear helmets. Prizes for best decorated bikes. Expect a visit from the Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse.

Information, 267-6531.
