R-C Morning Report: Smoke Out

When I was a kid growing up in Vegas, we used to visit my aunt in Los Angeles during the worst of the smog there. That's got nothing on what we're looking at in Carson Valley this morning. The National Weather Service is reporting visibilities of 2-4 miles due to smoke. Unless some of the fires are extinguished, the west winds expected this afternoon will just pump in more smoke.

The Weather Service is suggesting that if you're susceptible to the smoke due to age or infirmity, stay indoors. The Washoe County District Health Department has issued a Stage One air pollution alert due to the smoke.

If you're on the roads, slow down because it's going to be hard to see. Looking outside, I think that 2-mile estimate might be high. However, at the airport the automated weather system thinks it can see 6 miles. Who am I to argue?
