Artists open studios for Valley art tour

Staff Reports

Visit working artists' studios during the free 2008 Carson Valley Open Studios Art Tour beginning Friday. The open studio tour features oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, silk and mixed media paintings, sculptures, photography, stained glass, ceramics and jewelry.

The event begins with a reception 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Stodick Estates model homes on Macenna Lane in Gardnerville where each of the artists on the art tour will have sample artwork on display. The tour continues when about 20 area artists open their studios to self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The tour allows visitors to meet artists in their workspaces, view artist demonstrations and purchase artworks directly from the artists.

Carson Valley Open Studio Art Tour was founded in 2004 by artist J. Renee Ekleberry and is now a part of Magiko, the summer celebration in Carson Valley.

The Carson Valley Art Gallery Association will have the paintings and photography in the "Small Treasures" exhibit on display at several galleries in Carson Valley.

Studios on the tour are in Carson City, Minden, Genoa, Gardnerville. Maps will be available at the reception.

For a complete list of artists, samples of their work and directions to the studios, go to "Carson Valley Open Studio Art Tour" at www.ekleberry.com.
