Motorcyclist killed in Tahoe accident

Highway 28 has reopened following a head-on collision in which a motorcyclist was killed about 9:30 a.m. this morning near Spooner Summit.

The accident happened about two miles south of Sand Harbor State Park.

The man was northbound on a Yamaha motorcycle when he lost control and struck the trailer in tow of a southbound pickup truck, said NHP Trooper Todd Hartline, ejecting the man from the motorcycle.

Highway 28 is expected to be closed in both directions for several hours.

Southbound traffic at the intersection of Highway 28 and Lakeshore Drive in Incline Village, where motorists are being allowed to continue to Sand Harbor State Park, and no further.

Northbound traffic on Highway 28 is being rerouted at the intersection of 28 and Highway 50 West.

Officials from Washoe County Sheriff's Office, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Carson City Sheriff's Department are at the scene.
