Members of the board of directors of a new corporation designed to help rennovate downtown Gardnerville will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Directors Sandy Anderson, Kim Cervenak, Lorraine Felix, Laurie Hickey, Margaret Pross, Carol Sandmeier, Rory Sedgwick, Marcia Voeller, and Town Board Vice-Chairman Paul Lindsay were appointed by the Gardnerville Town Board on June 3.
The Main Street Program, while new to Gardnerville, is based on the 27-year-old "Main Street Four Point Approach" for commercial district revitalization created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center. More than 2,200 other communities across the country use the Main Street approach, with $44.9 billion dollars in downtown reinvestment activity attributable to the program since its inception.
"We're fortunate to be working with a very talented group of Main Street Board members," Lindsay said. "With the enthusiasm of everyone associated with our new local program I am confident that the community will see fantastic results."
The Main Street Gardnerville Program was seeded with $25,000 from the Gardnerville Town Board, and $50,000 from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
The program will be working with Rural Economic Development Director Joe Locurto of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development and Tim Rubald of Rubald and Associates. Rubald is a certified main street manager and a former executive director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.
"The Town of Gardnerville extends sincerest appreciation for the funding partnership with the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the support of County Manager Michael Brown," said Town Manager Jim Park.
