Former Tiger Balcom drafted by Kansas City Royals

Former Douglas High standout Chris Balcom-Miller was drafted by the Kansas City Royals Friday afternoon in the 35th round with the 1,045th pick of the draft.

Balcom, who played for West Valley College this season, was a sophomore standout for the Tigers in 2005. The right-handed pitcher earned second-team All-Sierra League honors after posting a 3-1 record on the mound and helping lead Douglas to its first league title in more than a decade.

He moved to California the next year and completed his high school career with Leigh High School.

At West Valley, he carried a 4.08 ERA in 17 appearances on the mound (mostly in relief). He struck out 33 in 28.2 innings pitched with just nine walks.
