Douglas County Historical Society honored its volunteers at a reception at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville on April 26. Volunteers were treated to hors d'oeuvres and received engraved wine glasses.

"We thank our volunteers," said Douglas County Historical Society President Grace Bower. "They are our most valuable asset. Both of our museums can always use more volunteers."

The historical society has depended on volunteers since its inception in 1969. The Gardnerville museum, which opened in 1995, is managed and staffed by volunteers.

The historical society receives support from admissions, fundraisers, memorials, grants, donations, museum stores and room rentals. They receive no regular state or county funding. For information about volunteering, call DCHS at 782-2555.
