A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City for Gerald Ross Crum who died June 1, 2008, at University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. He was 59.

Mr. Crum was born Jan. 28, 1949, in Woodland, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the Naval Electronics School in Great Lakes, Ill. He received a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from California State University, Chico.

Mr. Crum worked as an electronics technician for Bently Nevada in Minden. He also served as a volunteer for former U.S. Sen. Richard H. Bryan, D-Nevada, in Carson City.

Throughout his long battle with chronic fatigue syndrome and mantle cell lymphoma, Mr. Crum lobbied the Nevada Legislature and U.S. Congress for research funding for these diseases. He was instrumental in helping to start the lobbying efforts in Congress for chronic fatigue syndrome and non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Mr. Crum was an avid fly-fisherman and helped to start fly-fishing retreats for cancer survivors operated by Casting for Recovery and Reel Recovery in Northern Nevada.

He is survived by his wife Colleen "Coco" Crum, parents Robert and Gladys Crum, brother and sister-in-law Robert Crum and Linda Dosey, all of Carson City; sister and brother-in-law Carol and Mike Gaston, nephew and his wife Jeff and Bree Wedell, nephew Mark Wedell, all of Chico, Calif., and aunt Aileen Halko of Vacaville, Calif.

Mr. Crum also is survived by mother- and father-in-law Jerry and Vivian Crowell of Fallon, sister- and brother-in-law Connie and Steve Pepper, nephew and niece Allen and Elena Saine and grandniece Cassandra Saine, all of Phoenix.

A private burial is planned at a later date.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. June 14 at Washoe Lake State Park for Dennis F. Kelly, 62, who died March 9, 2008, in Carson City.

Mr. Kelly was born on Aug. 6, 1945, in San Francisco to Irene Pickrell and Charles Leppla Jr.

He grew up in the Bay area and joined the Marine Corps in 1963 and served as an aviation structural mechanic and crew chief in Vietnam on a UH-1 helicopter medivac unit. He was honorably discharged as a decorated Marine in 1967.

In the 1970s, Mr. Kelly worked as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator or backhoes, loaders and cranes. He also worked in manufacture of fiberglass products and fabricated dies and other tooling using mill, lathe, welder and associated hand tools.

He was became a licensed pilot in 1979, and he served from 1981 to 1985 in the Nevada Army National Guard as an aviation structural mechanic, crew chief and flight engineer on UH-1 and CH54A skycranes.

In the 1980s and 1990s, he worked as a designer, fabricator and welder in structural and ornamental iron. He also took time with his son, Jason for rock climbing, ski trips, hiking, flying and a trip to Alaska.

Mr. Kelly returned to college in the 1990s and graduated in 1997 from Western Nevada Community College with a degree as a microcomputer technician. He was indeed a man of many talents. A skier, cyclist, amateur geologist and fly fisherman.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his son Jason F. Kelly; grandsons Carson Scott and Cole Mitchell Kelly; wife Carla Sanders and many friends who loved and respected him.

Retired Union City Fire Department Chief Kenneth Caravante Garcia, 87, died in Gardnerville on June 1, 2008.

Born Sept. 5, 1920, Chief Garcia was preceded in death by his wife Mary of 52 years and grandson Kenneth Robertson.

He is survived by his wife Myrna Garcia of 13 years; children Brenda Robertson and husband Ray, Kenita Fergusan, Janet Ludington and husband Brick, Steve Walior, Michael Walior and wife Patty; brother Paul Garcia; and many nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Chief Garcia's memory to the Boys & Girls Club of Carson Valley, 673 S. Stewart St., Carson City, NV 89702. Arrangements are in the trusted care of Autumn Funerals & Cremations.

A celebration of life for Gregory Lewis Sherwood, 60, will be held at Debra and Chris Rose's home in Gardnerville at a later date.

Mr. Sherwood died May 26, 2008, in the intensive care unit at Renown Medical Center after a courageous struggle battling cancer.

Born Oct. 10, 1947, to Helen (Cavin) and Les Sherwood in Palo Alto, Calif., Mr. Sherwood was a truck driver at Crystal Dairy Foods in South Lake Tahoe, and was a fishing guide, along with his wife Carol, at Bridgeport Lake, Calif.

He is survived by his wife Carol; his daughter Debra and her husband Chris; and mother-in-law Claire Arienti, all of Gardnerville; his mother Helen; sister Judie and her husband Doug, all of Sparks; two grandsons, William Saring of Reno and Brian Saring of Pennsylvania. He also leaves his niece and nephews, Kelly, Cory and Tony. Mr. Sherwood was preceded in death by his father, Les Sherwood; and his son Michael Sherwood.

Mr. Sherwood's family wishes to thank the nurses at Renown on the third floor, oncology; and the intensive care unit on the first floor.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society would be appreciated.

Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City.
