County commission candidate offering $500 for information about sign theft

Republican District 1 county commission candidate Dave Nelson is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft of a campaign banner that was hung near Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant along Highway 395 in Gardnerville.

"The sign was staked into a planter box in front of the motel rooms there," Nelson said. "A supporter called me Monday and said the sign went missing Sunday night (July 20). It was a $300 sign."

Nelson said he checked with county officials to see if the sign was removed for lawful reasons, but the county knew nothing of its disappearance.

"I thought maybe it was kids pulling a prank or something, but no other sign on the street was taken, and whoever took it would have needed a truck because it was on a 4-by-8 piece of plywood," Nelson said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at 782-9905 regarding case number 20489.
