Volunteers, donations needed for children's shopping spree

Staff Reports

The women's Sierra Nevada Active 20-30 Club is seeking monetary donations and volunteers to take children shopping for the fourth annual Children's Shopping Spree on Aug. 2.

The club's goal is to raise $6,000 to be able to invite a minimum of 60 children to the event. Each child will receive $100 for clothes and shoes and will have one adult to help them shop.

"It is important to have volunteers to show the community the rewarding results of their donation efforts. We are proud of our past success in providing opportunities to children and will continue to do so in the future," said club President Jacquie Manoukian.

"This is the club's fourth year organizing this event and will provide deserving children the opportunity to be well-prepared for the school year with a positive attitude," said succeeding President Betsy Mauchley.

The shopping spree begins 7 a.m. Aug. 2 at Wal-Mart. Volunteers will need to be there at 6:15 a.m. and children will arrive at 6:30 a.m. For information on how to volunteer or donate, contact Manoukian at jacquie2030@hotmail.com or (775) 691-3982.

Donation checks can be mailed to Sierra Nevada Active 20-30, P.O. Box 2231, Minden, NV 89423 or can be made electronically at www.sierranv2030.org.

Contact the Family Support Council at 782-8692 for an application to have your child participate.

Active 20-30 provides young adults with an opportunity for personal growth, friendships, and leadership development while improving the quality of life for the special needs children in their community.
