Relay for Life is July 26

Staff Reports

Jeff Ross began his campaign to fight back against cancer when he lost his mother to a rare form of gastric cancer. Ross will be speaking in the opening ceremonies of Relay For Life of Douglas County which starts at 5 p.m. July 26 and will run all night until 9 a.m. July 27 at Lampe Park.

Ross is convinced that, despite his loss, a community that gets behind the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life can prevent the same thing from happening to families in the future. He has spoken about his experience with cancer around the country in order to help the American Cancer Society raise funding for research, education, advocacy and service. He describes Relay for Life as, "One day, one night, one community, one fight."

The Controlled Burn fire performance group performs at 10 p.m. July 26 during the Relay for Life event in Lampe Park.

The group teaches and performs with anyone willing to learn the art of fire dancing. They are proud of their impeccable safety record and are excited to light up the night.
