Girls' Basketball: Coleville picks up three wins

The Coleville girls' basketball took three league games over the week to move into sole possession of first place in the Western 1A League.


Tuesday, the Lady Wolves defeated Sierra Lutheran 53-20.


Leading the way was Kimberly Torley with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals. Amara Rowley also scored in double digits with 16 points.


Kymberlee Curti had nine points and four assists and Molly Garcia had five points and nine rebounds also played significant roles in the victory.


Claudia Merito played very well coming off the bench, grabbing five rebounds and stealing the ball four times.


In Thursday action, Coleville handed the visiting Excel Christian Lady Warriors a 58-27 defeat.


Rowley led the Lady Wolves in three categories with 19 points, seven assists, and eight steals.


Kassie Pemberton scored a season high 12 points and dished out four assists and Torley scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory.


Curti with eight points and Garcia with five points also played very well for Coleville.


Coleville completed the three-game sweep on Friday with a 38-33 win at Smith Valley.


The Lady Wolves found themselves in a defensive struggle and tied at halftime at 19. Coleville put together an 11-2 third quarter to take control of the game and was able to win despite shooting only 21 percent from the field and losing the rebounding battle.


Rowley led all scorers with 16 points and played an outstanding defensive game ending with 12 steals.


Torley with eight points and nine rebounds and Curti with six points, nine rebounds, and three steals also played very well.


The Coleville girls end the weekend 5-0 in league and 10-4 overall. Coleville travels to Sierra Lutheran on Thursday before hosting Virginia City on Friday night.
