Fleet Reserve open to new members

The Fleet Reserve Association is open to all U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard veterans and active duty personnel.

Gary Welch and Norbert Monohan were indoctrinated as new FRA members in a ceremony at Sharkey's on Nov. 10. Welch spent 24 years in the Navy and retired as a chief petty officer. Monohan spent 10 years in naval aviation and left the service as a structural mechanic, petty officer first class.

Garrett Wanket, son of Johnson Lane resident Lisa Welch, became a member of the FRA Branch No. 137 in January. Wanket is serving aboard the USS George Washington CVN-73 aircraft carrier as a machinist mate.

The Fleet Reserve Association meets 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Friday of the month at the Veteran's Hall, Second and Curry streets in Carson City.
