Merrill Gardens hosts wine and cheese tasting

The residents of Merrill Gardens at Gardnerville sampled a variety of wines as part of the community's first Winter Wine and Cheese Happy Hour on Jan. 11. P.J.'s Liquors of Gardnerville, J.T. Basque Bar & Dining Room of Gardnerville and D'Vine Wine Tasting & Bistro of Carson City donated a variety of wines for the residents to sample.

Residents had brie, crackers, snacks and music by Kit LeFevre.

"Since it's a little difficult to make a trip over the mountains this time of year, we thought we'd bring a little of the wine country to our residents," said Active Living Director Lisa Schenzel. "Our residents really enjoyed their turn at being wine aficionados and the evening was extra special thanks to the generosity of our local businesses."

The residents' favorite wines were the cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay varieties. The residents celebrate a Dreaming of the Tropics themed happy hour featuring mojitos on Friday. Any local seniors who would like to join us and take a tour of the community are welcome.
