Winter gets nicer again

As I write this on Sunday, the snow from last weekend's storms is almost all gone at our house. We are lucky the temperatures warmed up a bit and that the sun can hit most of our property, and my neighbors all seem to be pretty well clear of the snow and ice we had for several days, too.

Coleville basketball

The girls' team prevailed over the girls from Pyramid Lake on Saturday, but the boys' team lost to the big and strong team from Pyramid. This week, they will have three games to play due the recent bad weather. Tuesday they will play Sierra Lutheran, 5:30 p.m., at Coleville. Thursday, 6 p.m. they'll play Excel Christian at Coleville. Friday, they'll play in Smith Valley. Keep your fingers crossed for them.

This and that

-- College football is now over, so we are moving on to the professional playoff games and toward the Super Bowl on Feb. 3. It does keep the television busy.

-- The Walker Thrift Store is looking for volunteers to help a few hours a week in the store. They can help sort and put out donations for purchase at the good prices offered. Stop by or give them a call at (530) 495-1200 for any volunteer information.

Everything else here in the Valley seems to be in slo-mo for a while, but things will be getting started again pretty soon, and we will have our usual busy schedule of activities.

Please be sure to stay warm and dry, as we know that this season and its cold temperatures is far from over.
