William R. Tennison

1929-2007

A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville for William R. "Billy Bob" Tennison, 78, who died Dec. 18, 2007, at his home in Gardnerville.

Mr. Tennison was born May 17, 1929, in Howland, Texas, to Lonnie and Willie Lee Tennison and grew up in Sulphur Springs, Texas. After serving in the Navy, he attended college at Texas A&M and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in food technology.

He was part of a team who created the chemical division of Southland Corporation in Dallas, Texas, and contributed to the development of the Slurpee.

Upon his retirement in California, he moved with his wife to Gardnerville in 1990 and began doing the things he loved, riding his horses, working at the Hunewill Guest Ranch during the summer months, working cattle with ranching friends, traveling the United States and abroad, driving his World War II Jeeps in local parades, and growing alfalfa on his 10 acres. He was a member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and was active in the Unity Church of Gardnerville.

He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Mr. Tennison was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Willie Lee Tennison. He is survived by his wife, Vaughan Davis; daughter Chantel Tennison and granddaughter Alessandra Strange; brother and sister-in-law Lonnie and Tommie Tennison and their two daughters; stepdaughter Kathy Mollet and her two children.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.

Julie M. Blumenthal

1951-2008

No services have been announced for Julie M. Blumenthal, 56, who died Jan. 1, 2008, at her Gardnerville home.

She was a resident of Gardnerville for 25 years and was born Oct. 2, 1951, in Washington to William McGuire and Marie L. McGuire. She married Robert Blumenthal and worked at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse. She loved her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Robert Blumenthal of Gardnerville; her mother Marie McGuire of Gardnerville; her son William Blumenthal of Gardnerville; her daughter Jennifer Schroeder of Fernley and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City.
