Organization seeks volunteers, projects

Active Volunteers in Douglas is seeking new members, and looking for agencies which might need some help.

In 2006, community and public service organizations throughout Douglas County who depended on the help of volunteers formed Active Volunteers in Douglas.

The group was chartered in 2007 to address recruitment, retention, placement and recognition of volunteers in Douglas County.

Since its inception, the group has helped oversee the volunteer activities of the sheriff's office, Douglas County Senior Services, Carson Valley Community Food Closet, Douglas County Historical Society, Family Support Council of Douglas County, the school district, Carson Valley Medical Center, parks and recreation, library and the Minden-Tahoe Airport.

The organization is accepting applications from volunteers for placement with any of the organizations. Residents can volunteer their service or labor for any hours that they are available.

AVID will put residents in contact with an appropriate organization based upon their labor skills.

For information, call 783-6450 and leave a message, including a contact telephone number.

A member of the group will return your call to coordinate placement with one of the agencies.

Public service organizations needing labor or assistance from volunteers are encouraged to call to register for labor placement.

AVID can assist managers and coordinators of volunteer groups with recruitment, management, ethics and performance of volunteers.
