The R-C Morning Report

Genoans picked Sheryl Gonzales to be the town's new manager on Tuesday night. While Gonzales was the front-runner for the job, there was some debate. Town chairwoman Kitty DeSocio abstained from the vote and board member Bill Donohoe waited to see which way the majority would go before casting his aye vote. Board member Brian Williams spoke for the majority when he pointed out that it was late in the game to hire someone who was unfamiliar with Candy Dance, the town's annual fund-raiser that accounts for the vast majority of its budget. Board members also approved offering Gonzales a salary range of between $42,000 and $50,000.

There was a non-injury accident in the westbound lanes of Highway 50 and Cave Rock Tunnel this morning. The tunnel's a bottle neck, so if you're commuting into Stateline or South Lake, watch out. Chains or snow tires are being required on roads around the lake and chains are mandatory over the summit. Interstate 80 is closed until 6:15 a.m. because of flooding.

A light rain is falling in the Valley this morning, and is expected to turn to snow above 5,000 feet. The rain gauge at Meneley Elementary School has recorded .02 inches. Precipitation is expected to taper off during the day today and then resume on Thursday morning. Today's high temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees. It's fairly warm out at 35 degrees in Minden
