Winter storm warning over, winter still here

A winter storm warning expired at 10 a.m. but the National Weather Service is predicting another 1-2 inches of snow could fall this afternoon. At least three inches of snow fell in western Carson Valley early this morning, leaving roads slick.

Highway 88 over Carson Pass is closed due to avalance control. Chains or snow tires are pretty much your ticket out of the Valley. Meanwhile the wind is picking up and blowing snow, so it's kind of hard to tell whether it's a snow shower, or just the old stuff taking flight.

It's warm out with the termometer in Minden showing 34 degrees. In the sun, where the wind isn't blowing, with just the right ... oh never mind.

By the end of the week, the weather service is predicting clear skies and 50-degree highs.
