Minden Rotary recognizes, awards Carson Valley residents

The Minden Rotary awarded $750 to Carson Valley individuals during recent meetings.

Pam Fried, owner of Great Basin Sports, was presented a check of $300 to purchase a mono sled for use in outdoor adventures such as skiing, sledding and kayaking for disabled children and adults.

Eighth-grade student Alejandra Montoya was given a backpack and a $200 savings bond for her accomplishments as the most improved student at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School.

Douglas High School students Colton Davis and Travis Davis competed in a speech contest sponsored by Minden Rotary. Colton won the competition and will be representing Minden in the area speech contest March 4 at the Carson Valley Inn. The topic of the speech was How Sharing Promotes Peace in the World.

Both students did an excellent job presenting their views and represent the quality of coaching and preparation they received at Douglas High through their speech and debate classes. Colton is a sophomore and Travis is a senior. First place was $150 and second place garnered $100.
