Douglas High quiet after reported text threat

Douglas High School is quiet this morning after a text message threatening harm to students and staff set off an electronic storm among students packing cell phones.

Only the usual sheriff's patrol car is parked out front this morning.

Earlier, students texted one another and debated whether it was safe to go to school.

The mother of two Gardnerville Ranchos students said they and their two friends were in her living room talking about whether to go to school.

The husband of a worker called The Record-Courier to say there was increased law enforcement presence at the school.

School officials said in a statement issued this morning that they and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office have investigated the threat.

"They do not believe there is a credible threat to anyone's safety," officials said. "However, the campus will have an increased serucity presence today."

The school is open and operating on its normal schedule.
