Golf, holiday music happening this week

Looking for that perfect gift for the golfer in your life? The Carson Valley Golf Course is doing its part to help you complete your shopping list hassle-free, and you'll get the added bonus of supporting one of our local businesses.

The pro shop features a wide variety of men's and ladies apparel, shoes, golf clubs, bags and balls. There's still time to add a unique touch with a personalized monogram on the golf balls or bags.

All of their 2008 rental sets are being liquidated, which is a great way to get a full set of clubs at a significant savings. Gift certificates and lesson packages are available, and the pros at the shop can even custom fit a new set of clubs.

Season passes go on sale Dec. 15 at 8 a.m. There is limited availability and they sell out each year, so be sure to get there early and take advantage of this deal.

Holiday shopping hours at the pro shop are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. The golf course is located at 1027 Riverview Drive in the Ranchos.

Cups tournament

All players are welcome to participate in the 2 Cups tournament Saturday at the Carson Valley Golf Course. Shotgun starts at 10 a.m. and the tournament is individual stroke play. The cost of $35 per person includes golf, a cart, soup at the turn, and a $10 prize fund. Register at, or call the clubhouse at 265-3181.

Joyful Noise at BAC

This fun and festive show features traditional and contemporary musical selections and stars local favorites John and Cherie Shipley. Featured musicians include Scott Marshall on bass, Graham Marshall on violin/fiddle, and the fabulous Unity Center chorus.

The program has appeared in Minden at the CVIC Hall for the past six years.

Holiday wishes

I hope you find time during the busy-ness of the holiday season to slow down and savor the delights that this time of year has to offer. Take a drive to admire the wonderful light displays in town and in your own neighborhood. Sit with a loved one next to a crackling fire. Curl up with a good book and a steaming mug of hot tea or cocoa. Start a list on the things that you are grateful for in this life. Breathe.

May you be blessed with the true gifts of Christmas.
