Fly-tying course begins Dec. 13

A fly-tying course at Angler's Edge is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 at the Angler's Edge, 1506 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Beginning to intermediate techniques are used to create fishing flies from feathers, fur and manmade items. All necessary tools and materials provided. Class size is limited. To reserve a seat, call 782-4734.


Natural wreath workshop

Learn how to create a holiday wreath, mantle or table decor at a wreath-making workshop, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 13, at Sorensen's Resort, Highway 88 in Hope Valley.

Artist Diane Campbell shows how to use forest greens, berries, cones, pods, flowers and leaves for wreaths.

Cost is for $50 lodging guests and $75 for non-lodging guest. All materials are provided. Hot cider and holiday goodies served. Information, (800) 423-9949.


Sign up by Dec. 15 for wine making

Gardnerville winemaker Archie Reed teaches classes on how to make wine beginning Jan. 7 at the University of Nevada, Reno, Cooperative Extension office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. At least 12 participants are needed to sign up by Dec. 15.

The five-week long course costs $275 and includes everything needed to make wine except the bottles.

The wine ingredient kit offers 12 choices of white and red wines. Expect to make 30 bottles of the wine of your choice and have the equipment and knowledge to make wine at home for $2 per bottle.
